 "Very Clever" 2010-03-15
By MashBill (KS, USA)
This is a very clever item. It has come in quite useful when I am away from the "grid". I have been able keep my BlackBerry, iPod Touch, and camera battery charged over an entire weekend with just one lithium cell. I take it with me whenever I will be away from electricity for any length of time.

"Too smart for its own good" 2010-01-27

I don't know if mine was defective or if it's a design flaw, but mine kept cutting out. The only way to get the accessory plugged into it to turn back on was to unplug the battery (again and again). This product does not have an on/off switch and seems to sense the power drawn by the accessory that you have plugged in. I suspect the problem I was having in some (but not all) accessories was that they drew too little power to get the Milwaukee Power Port to turn on or stay on. Again, I think it's a chicken-and-egg problem. Think Energy Star. The accessory is waiting for 12V to "wake up" but the Power Port is waiting for something to draw current before making 12V. I suspect it might also be worse with digital-type power supplies. In the end, mine was unacceptable as it would not deliver consistent power. I originally thought it was a rip-off price for just taking 12V of M12 battery and connecting it to a cigarette lighter socket with maybe a 5V regulator for the USB, but apparently it has a lot of auto-sensing, overload, underload, etc., "smarts" in it which makes it too smart for its own good. It's too bad because it would have been a really good product. Oh, and hole in the red plastic at the top is too small. You really have to force some plugs in and out.

"I keep in my backpack just in case." 2009-08-09
By Erik H. Reppen (Chicago)
I love knowing that as long as I have a car charger with me and an m12 battery that's been charged in the last couple months, I'll never be out of juice for my cellphone or Nintendo DS again. Phenomenally good idea. Now all they need is a solar power charging unit for the batteries. This silly little doo-dad brings huge appeal to Milwaukee's m12 line, IMO but I was sold on it already.
